You may have heard that every nurse needs an "INC registration" or a "NUID". Here is what the Indian Nursing Council (INC) itself says.
What is NUID?
INC describes NUID as a Nurse Unique Identity Number which is verifiable and identifiable across the country. It is linked to the Nurse Registration and Tracking System (NRTS).
Is NUID a licence?
No. INC's FAQ states that enrolment on NRTS is neither a licence nor a registration given by INC. Your legal licence to practise is the RN / RM registration from your State Nursing Registration Council.
Who maintains the record?
Registrations on NRTS are maintained by the State Nursing Registration Councils. That is why your details on NRTS must match your state council record exactly.
Before you apply
- Keep your state council registration certificate and number ready.
- Make sure your name and date of birth are the same on all documents.
- If your council record has an error, it has to be corrected by your council first.
