150 CNE credit hours for DNC renewal: how the hours work

30 hours a year, accredited providers only, and why attendance matters

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit hours are the most common reason nurses are not ready for DNC renewal. Here is what the Delhi Nursing Council says.

How many hours do you need?

DNC asks for 30 credit hours per year, i.e. 150 hours in 5 years, through continuing education programmes and workshops.

Which programmes count?

As per DNC's CNE policy, credit hours are awarded for programmes run by accredited providers. DNC lists eligible providers as educational institutions recognised by the State and Indian Nursing Council, district health boards, government or private hospitals, registered societies, educational units or committees, and training centres specialised in health fields. DNC states that applications from pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers and individual course deliverers are rejected.

DNC's page also states that nursing institutes recognised or affiliated by DNC, and hospitals recognised by the Directorate of Health Services, Govt of NCT of Delhi, can apply for DNC CNE credit hours.

How long are credits valid?

DNC's policy says awarded credit hours are valid for one calendar year only. Plan your hours year by year instead of trying to collect all 150 at the end.

Attendance is checked

Providers must keep attendance records, and DNC can carry out inspections. DNC's policy lists giving a CNE certificate to someone who did not attend, or only partly attended, as a violation. A certificate without attendance can put your registration at risk. Always attend the programme yourself.

A simple plan

  1. Collect all CNE certificates you already have.
  2. Count valid hours for each calendar year.
  3. Find accredited programmes that fit your duty timings for the missing hours.
  4. Keep every certificate safely for your renewal application.
